I purchased this drive new at outletpc for $30+, less than the $49 wd blue i originally had, and i can see why it was cheaper (never having used a 'green' drive before, i didn't know what to expect). The problems with the new drive began when i tried to reload my software from the backup media.This drive suffers from horrible i/o errors if you ever try to do any kind of constant writing job, such as extraction of an archive file or configuring a virtual machine on the drive, or other program installation. The older wd blue i had never had i/o errors until it finally died two years later. I was trying to read the logs off my computer (after i discovered these errors) and the entire computer would freeze for seconds at a time. The logs weren't even that larger, since the computer was just installed fresh. Not to exclude anything else, but the read problems extend to booting up a linux computer, too, so it isn't just after starting to 'do things' on the drive. It's very frustrating to have to force-quit an installation and retry once more because of this drive's problems.I run linux on my computer and on that linux install i had planned to run a group of virtual machines to provide local services for my house. I can't install large programs onto the virtual linux install(s) because the software reports an i/o error as soon as the sustained use happens (such as archive extraction) and forcibly pauses the split of the virtual machine. It is not possible to just continue because of the i/o errors.
